The History of Twitter Fairy

I started on Twitter in November of 2008, about a month before I was promoted to Content Manager for the group of companies I work for.  I was having a short conversation with Erica O’Grady about Social Media and how it could be used to promote our companies and get the buzz on the street.  She told me to create a Twitter account and follow her and see what she did over the weekend and then we would talk again on Monday, well that second call never happened for whatever reason, I will probably never know, however; I did the homework she gave me and I took it to the extreme.

I learned all I could about Social Media, Content Management, Branding, SEO, Internet Marketing, Social Marketing and more.  If it can be found on Google for free, I read it, learned it and applied it. Because I work for a group of partners that operate several companies I wanted to see if I could brand myself and all the work involved with that before I went out and started creating brands for each entity that I write for.  Wow, what a job it is, and it’s a daily job maintaining your social identity too.

Now I knew about SEO and using New Media for marketing from the old fairy pond days when it was a fairy lovers forum, shopping cart and art gallery.  Way back when, if you typed fairy in any one of the many spellings into Google or Yahoo, TheFairyPond.com was allways on the front page.  I was one of the first few thousand people on MySpace and Friendster and I used them to my full advantage.  I also used niche art sites for link backs and traffic driving strategies, but Twitter has taken all of this to a new level.

Now I am not professing to be a guru, I don’t know everything there is to know about Twitter.  No one does because it’s depth and reach are changing everyday as new applications popup and as the user generated content is manipulated for a variety of functions.   I do not have tens of thousands of followers (yet), but I am growing on a daily basis.   I didn’t really start putting any effort into my Twitter Marketing until I decided how I was going to use it and as you will see in the chart below that was on January 12, 2008 when I had 15 followers.

Today is February 27, just about 6 weeks later and I am up to 2245 followers and I am listed as a Twitter Elite here in San Diego by TwitterGrader. I have accquired a massive amount of knowledge and I want to share that with you!  My first eBook is about getting started in Twitter and I am sure there will be updates, new editions and more volumes as Twitter grows and my business grows with it.

I hope you enjoy this blog and feel encouraged and invited to share your thoughts and opinions as we all learn from eachother.  For that is the beauty of Twitter.  It really is a place where people share knowledge, and encourage others.  I look forward to tweeting with you.
