Internet Marketing? What is it? Is it for me? Where would I start?
An Internet Oil Well is a metaphor for a website or group of sites that once created and properly managed will create a steady stream of income on the Internet, very similar to a traditional oil well. Instead of drilling for oil on a piece of physical real estate you are building a list of potential customers through websites, email and advertisements called Internet Marketing.
When I think of Internet Marketing I immediately think of those "make money at home", "make money in your sleep" guys who scream "I made $86,762 in 8 minutes in one email on the Internet and I want to show you how to do it too!" My thoughts on that are, if you made that much money in that short of time all by yourself, then you probably wouldn’t be emailing me asking me for $997 to join your program, you would most likely be on some beach somewhere enjoying the sun and margaritas, but that’s just my humble opinion.
Now there are some case studies out there and some rare birds (Frank Kern, Armand Morin, Marlon Sanders, Yanik Silver, etc.) that are able to pull off these miraculous feats but it’s not really in 8 minutes. It may have been 8 minutes from the time the main broadcast was sent but there are MONTHS of planning that go into these crazy huge launches, there are websites to purchase and host, products to create, content to write, sales pages to invent, videos to edit, and most importantly email lists to build, manage and massage and I don’t know of one that did it alone, they all have teams of people and vast resources to pull it off successfully.
Anyone who tells you that you can be come a millionaire on the Internet overnight is misleading you. There are thousands of websites and even TV commercials that profess you can make millions from home in a short amount of time. The truth is that there is work to be done before a "launch" that can and has created hundreds of thousands of dollars for very few successful marketers. These successful people don’t create new launches every week either. Some are several years apart or at a minimum several months and the reason is that it takes work, consistency and time to make money on the Internet. I can tell you that all these successful Internet Marketers started small with one blog, or one affiliate program or one website and built off of that to create their income streams.
